Summer Enrichment Options

Does your student plan to take math or applied science courses in the fall?  Your student can get a head start on a high grade in the fall through summer enrichment courses that are fun, effective, and taught by knowledgeable teachers in a format designed for a hands-on, energetic summer format.  One of the best we have personal experience with is offered by John Wilson III, PARTS community member and director of West Angeles Education and Enrichment Program, and for the first time they will have classes here in Long Beach!  John has recently concluded a low-cost SAT prep course here in Long Beach with several Renaissance students, and he plans more college prep and affordability programs here that will be open to anyone in any Long Beach-area school.

To get information on the upcoming summer classes in Long Beach, and for more information on all the low-cost resources in college prep, college tours, and college affordability offered, please visit the website: http://www.mathinkers.org/long-beach-classes.html and be sure to sign up on the email list.  You can also CLICK HERE to see the draft of the classes, fees, dates and times -- the location is still TBD.

West Angeles administered a CSU grant called "Summer Algebra Institute" in Long Beach.  (Read the article published in the Gazette in 2011 by clicking here  and the article about the 2012 program by clicking here.) This particular grant will only be run in Los Angeles this year.  However, the Pre-Algebra/Algebra course to be run in Long Beach will still be an excellent way to thoroughly prepare your student not just to excel at Algebra, but to lay a strong foundation for all the math that will follow.  Algebra is a gateway course to college -- success in Algebra leads to success in Algebra 2, which is required for college.
