Scholarship Tips

1. Never pay to apply for a scholarship.
2. Make sure the application is complete and no information is missing. It can affect eligibility.
3. Looking for scholarships is an ongoing process. If you don't receive one prior to starting college, continue to look.
4. Take an hour at least once a month and apply for 2-3 scholarships.
5. Keep looking! As students progress, they may qualify for different scholarships. For example, there are scholarships for only juniors or seniors.
6. Read the requirements to make sure you meet the criteria and are not wasting time on something you can't receive.
7. Once a college accepts your student, set up a meeting with the financial aid department and ask about internal scholarships.
8. Be honest. If untrue information is discovered after a scholarship is awarded, it can be taken away.
9. Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher while in college to ensure more opportunities to apply for merit-based scholarships.
