Low-Cost Math Tutoring - Available Again Soon at LBCAP!

If your student struggles with any level of math, science, or English, there is a great place to get help!  Thanks to a cooperative partnership between West Angeles Education & Enrichment Program and Long Beach Community Action Partnership, an after school enriched studies program, offering tutoring in all levels of math and applied science, as well as English will be kicking off the fall season soon.  This new Long Beach branch of the highly regarded long-running program at West Angeles Church, offering very high quality and low-cost homework help, began last spring at LBCAP. (For more info on West Angeles' Education and Enrichment program, see the website:  http://www.mathinkers.org)

All Long Beach middle and high school students (grades 6-12) are invited to this program, so please feel free to share the information with friends.  However, enrollment is limited to 23 students to ensure high quality personal attention for each student.

This homework help program is offered on Tuesdays (meet at Carl's Jr. at corner of Long Beach Boulevard and Willow from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m.) AND Thursdays (meet at LBCAP, corner of Long Beach Boulevard and Spring) from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m.  If you would like to sign your student up for this, please request information using this link:  http://www.mathinkers.org/long-beach-parents--students.html

PLEASE NOTE:  These are not classes; they are homework assistance.  Therefore, to get the most out of this high quality tutoring help, students MUST come prepared with supplies (pen, pencil, paper) AND their homework assignments and textbooks.

The Thursday LBCAP sessions are a convenient short bus ride from Renaissance (bus stops right in front of the building) at:

LBCAP (Long Beach Community Action Partnership)
3012 Long Beach Boulevard (the red brick building at the corner of Spring St.)
Long Beach, CA

The Tuesday sessions are a shorter bus ride -- just up to the Metro station at LB Boulevard and Willow, at the Carl's Jr. restaurant there.  Registered students may drop in for help with homework between the designated time period, between 3:30 and 6 pm (PLEASE arrive no later than 5:15 to be sure there is time to provide help before the doors close at 6).  All students must be picked up (or leave the building) no later than 6:00 p.m.

As part of the agreement with LBCAP, some families may qualify for participation in this program at no cost.  For those who do not qualify, the rate is still very low, particularly when compared to the high cost of individual tutoring, and especially considering the high quality of the trained and experienced tutors in this program, who I personally recommend.

RHSA students are getting first chance at this program, but please feel free to share this information with friends and relatives in Long Beach whose students could benefit from high quality homework help.

Private Tutoring for Algebra and Pre-Algebra

If you have a middle school through ninth grade student who is struggling with Algebra (or Pre-Algebra) and are in need of an excellent private tutor (either one-on-one or small groups), please contact Lora Kermode of GEMDAS. She's a credentialed teacher, but more importantly, she has developed strategies that help students not only learn and UNDERSTAND algebra, but enjoy it.  Her methods are especially helpful to kinesthetic learners.  She is enthusiastic, high energy, and will make learning fun.  Click here to download her flyer.  (This is a personal recommendation by Nanette Davis.)
