LBCAP - Leadership Academy Mentoring Program (LAMP)

PARTS hosted a talk by Darick J. Simpson and Maeve Milstead of LAMP to discuss their amazing arts and academic enrichment program offered to area students at the LBCAP facility on the corner of Long Beach Boulevard and Spring.  Now that Renaissance's video program has closed, students interested in learning video can learn all aspects of video production and editing (as well as other arts) in a state-of-the-art facility that also serves as the Long Beach Public Access training facility.  Below is the application provided earlier in 2013.  Included with the arts program is high quality homework help offered in partnership with West Angeles Education & Enrichment.  Watch for updated information in the fall.  Several RHSA students enrolled in this program in the spring of 2013 and were given summer jobs because of their hard work and achievement.  This is an excellent enrichment opportunity for our students, whether they are interested in video, graphic design, or music.

The mission of Leadership Academy Mentoring Program (L.A.M.P.) is to create innovative personal and career development programs that educate and encourage youth to overcome personal barriers and become positive contributors to their families and communities. Youth are able to develop skills in areas of art which include: Art & Design, Music Production, Photography, Video Production, and Writing. Youth are required to participate in the following workshops: team building, job training, life-skills, college and career exploration, service learning, self-esteem, job search, positive communication with their parents, attainment strategies and time/stress management skills. Youth that participate in the academy are provided tutoring, content experts, and are allowed access to the studio Monday through Friday.  Please visit their website at http://www.lbcap.org/
